Coach Haines’ Background

Coach Chris Haines, the coach of Tie Up Takedown Camps, started wrestling in 7th grade in Gettysburg, PA. In three seasons at Gettysburg High School he amassed a 82-20 record and was selected as team captain twice. He capped his senior year with a section championship, district/region championship, and a 4th place finish at the AAA PA state tournament.  He also became a national champ that summer at the NHSCA National Open.  He was also a three year football varsity letter winner at quarterback for the Warriors.

Following the family tradition Coach Haines attended Lock Haven University to continue his wrestling career. He was a spot starter as a red-shirt freshman finishing with a 12-5 record that year.  He missed his sophomore season with a torn ACL. He received the Most Improved/Comeback Wrestler of the Year his junior season.  As a senior he helped lead his team to a dual victory over Iowa State and was ranked as high as 13th in the country. Coach Haines was a two time Mat-Town USA place winner and a two time PSAC place winner. He graduated from Lock Haven in 2003 with a BS in Secondary Education- Social Sciences.

Following his collegiate career Coach Haines followed his wife, Jenn, to Virginia where she was earning her doctorate degree in physical therapy from Shenandoah University. He helped open Millbrook High School and was the assistant wrestling coach for the inaugural season. In 2004, Coach Haines became the head coach the second season the school had a program and has not looked back. He has had a least one state finalist every season since becoming head coach.  His Madmen Wrestling Club was founded in 2004 and currently boasts over 100 registered members.  Coach Haines is a 2x Northern Virginia Coach of the Year.

Coach Haines still participates in tournaments today, including the USA Senior Nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada.   He teaches in the Social Studies Department at Millbrook High School. He spends his free time with his wife, Jenn, and his children Zoey (who has begun training for the 2028 Olympics) and Blake (who will begin training next year).
